Natick Recreation and Parks will open registration for its fall program lineup on Sept. 9, and a resident used a Select Board meeting to thank the town for a facilities fix at the tennis courts and soccer fields.

TOWN -- Natick Recreation and Parks says on its town website that fall registration opens Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 12 p.m. The department, based at the Cole Center on Boden Lane, oversees town fields, parks and program registration for residents.

At the Aug. 19 Select Board meeting, Natick resident Mark Hagan told the board that the tennis courts and soccer fields, which he described as a popular spot for tennis players, walkers and joggers, had lacked a permanent portable toilet. He said that over the summer the issue "has been rectified" and thanked the town for the fix. Board members did not identify which department or staff member was responsible for the change.

A separate speaker, Natick resident Mark Schneider, raised safety concerns to the board about e-bikes and e-scooters traveling on a walking path around a soccer field at what he referred to as "the Co-Rec," saying riders had nearly struck him. The board said it could not respond that night under open meeting law but noted a briefing on e-bike issues is planned for its Sept. 2 meeting.
