Hybrid Town Meeting Committee · Meeting of July 15, 2026
NATICK — The Natick Hybrid Town Meeting Committee spent over two hours debating draft rules for remote town meeting participation without taking any substantive votes. Member Saul Beaumont pushed for a week's advance notice and cameras on at all times for remote participants, saying members "should be accountable" and visibly present. Clerk Joshua Ostroff countered that the committee's own survey found only 20 percent of respondents could manage a week's notice.
Town Moderator Jeff Alderson said he did not want to be "the arbiter of what hardship means" and clarified that under Town Meeting Time, only the moderator determines quorum, not individual members monitoring a dashboard. The committee agreed to soften a draft recommendation naming Natick High School as the sole backup venue and to drop a proposal for town-issued member email addresses. Members set their next sessions for July 23 and August 4, targeting a September 15 deadline to finalize the report.
