Finance Committee backs $750,000 for stabilization

Finance Committee · Meeting of September 24, 2026

Natick Finance Committee reverses course, sends $750,000 to reserves and punts two zoning articles. Town official Mr. Skye told the panel new growth tax revenue, boosted by a personal property tax audit, now looks closer to $2.3 million rather than the budgeted $1.5 million, prompting a 12-0 vote to put $600,000 into Capital Stabilization and $150,000 into General Stabilization.

The committee also voted unanimously to refer two Planning Board zoning articles, on downtown mixed-use rules and flexible off-street parking, back to the board rather than recommend them for town meeting, after members said they received key documents, including one with an uncorrected $12,500 fee figure, less than 48 hours beforehand. Member Julian argued "a Springtown meeting appears to be the best time for everyone to have ample time for review," while member David said he was "a little tired" of criticism that the committee acts as a "rubber stamp."
