Turf study group elects McDonough chair, outlines data-focused report scope

Natural and Synthetic Turf Field Study Group · Meeting of February 2, 2026

Natick's Natural and Synthetic Turf Field Study Group held its inaugural meeting and elected Julie McDonough Chair unanimously. Three of four members attended. The group agreed the final report will compile existing research, examine comparable towns including Brookline and Wayland, and calculate short and long-term maintenance and installation costs — but will not recommend whether the town should adopt synthetic or natural turf surfaces.

Members will invite speakers from school sports, youth sports, Parks and Recreation, Department of Public Works, Board of Health, and Conservation Commission. Follow-up meetings are scheduled for February 9 and February 23; Bruce Evans will coordinate a warrant article for Town Meeting to hear the interim report.
