Natick Select Board voted to extend police leadership contracts through legislation. Chair Bruce T. Evans and board members voted 4-1 on February 4 to sponsor warrant articles seeking home rule petitions for Police Chief Hicks and Deputy Chief Lauzon beyond mandatory retirement at 65 in February 2027.

Member Kathryn M. Coughlin opposed both. Town Administrator James Errickson cited major transitions: four officers in the academy, four to five more entering training in June, and anticipated lieutenant and sergeant retirements.

Any extensions would be up to two years with quarterly reviews. Superintendent Dr. Melissa Spash presented a $100.65 million FY27 school budget, a 5.4 percent increase reflecting contractual obligations and transportation costs.
