Natick Select Board advanced hybrid design for Main Street Improvement Project. The Board unanimously approved September 9 to move the hybrid concept into the 25% design phase, securing $500,000 in state TIP grant funding. Chair Kathryn M.
Coughlin and members rejected mill-and-overlay as insufficient and the enhanced option for removing 14 parking spaces. The hybrid design preserves parking while adding protected bike lanes, enhanced pedestrian crossings, and safety staging for emergency vehicles. Deputy Police Chief Brian Lauzon, Highway Supervisor Brian Cassie, Town Engineer John DiGiacomo, and Transportation Planner Morgan Griffiths identified priorities including pedestrian signals, snow storage capacity, and delivery vehicle access.
The Board directed consultants to address these concerns during design development.
