Natick Select Board appointed John Martin as Veteran Service Officer for three years in a unanimous vote. The selection followed a competitive recruitment that drew 17 applications with seven candidates interviewed by a panel including town administration, select board members, a local veteran, and the community services director. Martin, a retired master sergeant with 26 years of military service and 30 years in veterans' benefits counseling, was most recently at Mass Bay Community College where he led veteran enrollment certification and Veterans Administration compliance.
He replaces outgoing VSO Paul Carew, to be honored March 18.
