Natick Select Board votes 5-0 to advance a hybrid bike-lane design for Main Street into 25 percent engineering. The $11 million project, funded largely through state and federal transportation dollars including a $500,000 design grant, drew pointed questioning of a deputy police chief, a highway supervisor and an engineer who had all voted against the plan in an earlier advisory review, citing snow storage, delivery access and vehicle-staging concerns rather than the bike lanes themselves. "We have to have an area to stage our vehicles," the deputy chief told the board.
Board member Cody Jacobs, who moved the motion, called it "an opportunity for the town" to fund major upgrades without local tax dollars. The board also approved a change-of-manager alcohol license for California Pizza Kitchen 5-0-0 and heard a resident blast a roughly $1.2 million Community Preservation Act request for South Natick Park ahead of the October 21 Fall Town Meeting.
