Town Meeting Orientation · Meeting of October 1, 2026

Natick's Town Moderator briefed incoming and returning Town Meeting members on rules ahead of the fall session. Jeff Alderson, now in his fourth session as moderator, told members 171 of the body's 180 seats are filled, including nine new members seated through recent precinct caucuses, calling it possibly the highest seated membership "in maybe a couple of decades." The 17-article fall warrant opens October 6 at 7:30 p.m. at Kennedy Middle School, with roughly eight or nine articles expected to move through a consent agenda requiring a two-thirds vote. Alderson disclosed he is sponsoring Article 11, a bylaw change that would let Town Meeting adopt consent-agenda rules permanently rather than voting to authorize one each session.

He said indefinite postponement recommendations amount to a stronger rejection than a simple "no," telling members, "an indefinite postponement is a hell no." Member Andrea Adams said she had not received her printed Finance Committee recommendation book for two sessions running.
