NATICK — Hybrid Town Meeting Committee reviews Burlington experience, survey finds strong support. Burlington Town Moderator Bill Beyer described running hybrid meetings during COVID using WebEx, with manual vote counting and technical challenges, noting his municipality's first hybrid proposal was rejected before passing a compromise limiting remote participation to 15 people pending state approval. Survey results from 359 respondents showed 78 percent of residents support hybrid Town Meeting, while 56 percent of current and former Town Meeting members said remote participation would make them more likely to serve; technology reliability was the dominant concern across all groups.
The committee will finalize its recommendations report at the April 8 meeting and plans a public forum in September.
