Council on Aging workgroup plans senior safety initiatives

Council on Aging Board Safety Workgroup convenes to advance multiple senior-safety initiatives.

Council on Aging · Meeting of August 6, 2026

Council on Aging Board Safety Workgroup convenes to advance multiple senior-safety initiatives. The three-member workgroup, composed of COA Board Secretary James Fitzgerald, Laura Forker, and Mal Sockol, agreed to draft a letter to the COA Board addressing pedestrian-safety concerns related to motorized and regular bicycles on the Cochituate Rail Trail and Coolidge Hill. The workgroup will continue developing an information poster about scams in coordination with COA personnel who create newsletter graphics.

Two additional safety areas require investigation: over-medication among seniors and pedestrian safety during an upcoming Mass DOT construction project scheduled for September 27.
